The type of personal information we collect
We currently collect and process the following information:
- Email address (to facilitate access to the training)
- Name (to provide personalisation)
- Category of employment (to allow summary statistics regarding uptake)
- Institute/Organisation (to allow summary statistics regarding uptake)
- Feedback (will be processed anonymously to improve training)
How we get the personal information and why we have it
Most of the personal information we process is provided to us directly by you for one of the following reasons:
- To provide access to the training
- To provide summary statistics to our funders (BBSRC) regarding the uptake of the training they have provided through us
- To improve the training and provide informed suggestions and recommendations to BBSRC regarding improvements and retention of this training scheme
We may share anonymous summary information with BBSRC and other sites to evidence take up of the training.
Your details will be visible to our training provider, Thinkific, and subject to their privacy policy which is located at https://www.thinkific.com/privacy-policy/
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the lawful bases we rely on for processing this information are:
(a) Your consent. You are able to remove your consent at any time. You can do this by contacting us via the details at the top of this notice
How we store your personal information
Your information is securely stored on the Thinkific servers, and summary data will be generated on our systems in the John Innes Centre here in Norwich.
We will keep registration information up to February 2026 – unless you tell us to delete it beforehand. We will then dispose your information and the account you have used by deleting it.
Your data protection rights
Under data protection law, you have rights including:
Your right of access - You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal information.
Your right to rectification - You have the right to ask us to rectify personal information you think is inaccurate. You also have the right to ask us to complete information you think is incomplete.
Your right to erasure - You have the right to ask us to erase your personal information in certain circumstances.
Your right to restriction of processing - You have the right to ask us to restrict the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.
You are not required to pay any charge for exercising your rights. If you make a request, we have one month to respond to you. Please contact us via the details at the top of this notice if you wish to make a request.
